Facebook is increasingly being used solely as a photo sharing service by a lot of its users and today Facebook has somewhat proved this to be true by releasing a standalone photo sharing app known as Camera.

The app is very obviously heavily influenced by Instagram, although the Instagram team has played no part in its development since Facebook’s acquisition deal is yet to close. In fact, it’s basically an Instagram clone but with sharing limited exclusively to Facebook. The main advantage with using Facebook Camera over the original Facebook app is the ability to select and upload multiple photos at once.

The app is really simple to use and sports a nice photo-only news stream. It includes basic editing feature like crop, rotate and Instagram-like filters.

This isn’t the first standalone mobile app Facebook has released. In August last year Facebook released Messenger, a standalone Facebook chat application. Earlier this month Facebook also released Facebook Pages Manager, a standalone app to help brands and businesses administer their Pages on mobile. Now, Facebook continue this trend towards mobile with the release of Camera.

Camera is iPhone-only from today but expect an Android and Windows Phone version in the near future.
