Flickr brings beautiful slideshows to the iPad
Flickr, the most popular photo sharing social network, has made a small but welcome update to its light box feature. The update targets iPad users specifically and allows images to be viewed full-screen in the browser, with a simple swiping motion enabled to cycle between previous and next images.

Google acquires Irish digital video technology company Green Parrot Pictures
Google has acquired Irish digital video technology company Green Parrot Pictures with the intention of using their innovations to improve the quality of videos uploaded to YouTube. Green Parrot’s technology has been employed post-production on several blockbuster movies including The Lord of the Rings and Spider-Man.

RTÉ Player now includes Live TV streaming
RTÉ Player has today updated its free online video catch-up service to enable live streaming of channels RTÉ One, RTÉ Two, and RTÉ News Now. It’s not yet understood if all programming will be made available, but this certainly is a welcome move from our national broadcaster.

Microsoft discontinue Zune production
Microsoft will no longer release further iterations of Zune hardware, but will instead concentrate on integrating Zune software and functionality into other devices like the Xbox and those running Windows Phone 7.

Google remains dominant leader over US search market
Google remains the dominant search market share leader with 65.4% of all explicit searches in the US in February 2011, according to comScore qSearch analysis. Yahoo! came in second with 16.1% market share, Bing at 13.6%, Ask at 3.2%, and AOL at 1.7%. Explicit searches are those that reflect specific user intent to interact with the search results.

RTÉ to cut up to 60 jobs
RTÉ have announced today that between 50 and 60 jobs will be axed due to the companies current undesirable “financial situation”. RTÉ management informed unions this morning that voluntary redundancy and early retirement schemes were being prepared.

How the iPad 2 compares to other tablets [Infographic]
With the iPad 2 set to go on sale in the US tomorrow, and March 25 for the rest of us, how does it compare against other tablet competitors? Skattertech have created a helpful graphic that compares, at least technically, the iPad 2 and its three main, and as yet unreleased, competitors - the Samsung Galaxy Tab 10, the HP Touchpad and the LG G-Slate.

iOS 4.3 update available to download
iOS 4.3 update for the iPhone, iPod Touch, and the iPad has been released in the last hour. Improvements in this release are small but welcome none the less.

Brian Cox presents Wonders of the Universe on the BBC
Professor Brian Cox has returned to the BBC in a four part series titled Wonders of the Universe. Following on from Stargazing LIVE, a very successful three day solar exploration live broadcast event at the start of this year, Brian Cox returns to our screens in a new series and “reveals how the most fundamental scientific principles and laws explain not only the story of the universe, but the story of us all”.
