Apple to announce budget iPhone 4 and new iPhone 4S tomorrow, but no iPhone 5?
With a little over 24 hours until Apple CEO Tim Cook showcases the next iPhone, evidence is gathering that the rumoured teardrop-shaped iPhone 5 will not make its debut. Instead, a budget iPhone 4 and new iPhone 4S models will be announced for immediate or near-immediate release, with the iPhone 5 now expected to launch at a later date.

Chrome set to overtake Firefox in two months, Internet Explorer by June 2012
Chrome, Google's three-year old web browser, is set to overtake Firefox in terms of global browser market share by the end of November, according to projections made by this author and based on data from StatCounter.

Norwegian firm buys majority stake in DoneDeal
DoneDeal, Ireland's largest classified ads website, has sold a majority stakeholding to Norwegian firm Schibsted Media Group. Schibsted has acquired a 50.09% stake in DoneDeal with financial arrangements remaining undisclosed.

Google announces plans for a €75 million energy-efficient data centre in Ireland
Google Ireland has announced plans to construct a highly energy-efficient data centre on a newly acquired 11-acre site near Clondalkin, Dublin. The €75 million investment will create 30 full-time jobs, with a further 200 required during construction.

Apple opens-up iTunes Store and iBookstore to other European countries ahead of iPhone 5 announcement
Apple has expanded the availability of the iTunes Store to 12 more countries in the European Union (EU). This now means that iTunes users in all 27 member states can make purchases on the digital media store.

IEDR announce names of ten Irish companies who will share €100,000 e-commerce fund
The IE Domain Registry (IEDR) has announced the names of ten Irish companies who will share its e-commerce website development fund of €100,000. The OPTIMISE fund will be shared equally among the ten recipients, each receiving €10,000 worth of technical and marketing expertise.

"Massive win" for Ireland as Twitter sets up international office in Dublin
Industrial Development Authority (IDA) Ireland announced this morning that Twitter is to establish an international office in Ireland - their third location outside of the United States. It's not yet known whether this office will become Twitter's European HQ - a title which may still be awarded to London.

Tablet speculation mounts as Amazon schedules media event next week
Amazon has scheduled a media event in New York on September 28th, mounting speculation that their forthcoming Amazon tablet will be announced. The tablet is expected to begin retailing in October or November at $299, considerably less than the entry-level Apple iPad.

Facebook chooses Microsoft over Google to power new Timeline maps feature
Facebook has chosen Microsoft's Bing Maps over Google Maps to power new mapping features on its visually improved Timeline profile page. The new Timeline profile places greater emphasis on location-aware postings, with Facebook once again partnering with Microsoft rather than Google - arguably a greater competitor.
