Rent Top Gear episodes on Facebook for €1
BBC Worldwide, with help from social app maker Softwind Studio, has developed a Facebook video on-demand application that allows Facebook users to rent episodes of Top Gear and view these directly within the social network.

Defunct HP TouchPad now an Amazon bestseller
After last week's surprise announcement by HP that it would "discontinue operations for webOS devices", sales of such, specifically the HP TouchPad, have never been so good. As consumers scramble to avail of heavily discounted TouchPad offers in the US and Canada, and now the UK, HP's tablet device has today reached the number one spot on Amazon's electronics bestseller list.

Libya's domain registry website hacked
The website of Libya's domain registry, nic.ly, has been hacked with a simple message stating "bye bye Qadaffi [sic]". The hack is attributed to an individual known as 'Electr0n' and contains obvious anti-Muammar Gaddafi sentiment.

Forget Monaco, Dublin to feature Formula One event next summer
Formula One, the world's fastest motorsport, will be showcased in an event that will take place through the streets of Dublin next year, will all major F1 teams expected to represent. The spectacle will attract over 250,000 people to the capital, reports The Irish Times.

WordPress powers 22% of new active domains in the US
WordPress founder Matt Mullenweg published some impressive platform statistics earlier this week that show the content management system's continued phenomenal growth this year. WordPress now powers 14.7% of the top million websites, up from 8.5% one year ago, and perhaps more interestingly, 22% of all new active domains in the US run WordPress.

Dublin-based beauty industry software provider secures €1.3 million investment
Phorest, a Dublin-based company that provides management and booking software for the hair and beauty industry, has today announced that they have secured a €1.3 million investment from multiple funders, including a mix of private investors and the Enterprise Equity venture capital fund.

Vodafone offer Android app purchases through your phone bill
Vodafone UK has become the first mobile operator in Europe to offer users the ability to make Android app purchases through their existing mobile bill. Vodafone are also expected to introduce a similar feature to Android users in Germany.

Google Earth imagery update helps uncover part of Scotland's hidden heritage
The Google Earth and Google Maps team published an imagery update earlier today which, as usual, contains some really interesting sites. Ireland is not featured is this update, but large parts of Scotland and England, among others, are.
