Irish consumer are expected to spend €257 million online this Christmas, with today, Cyber Monday, set to be the single busiest day in terms of online trade during this holiday shopping season.
Research from Visa Europe found that 82% of the Irish adult online population plan to spend an average of €155 online this Christmas.
Almost seven million transactions will occur across Europe today alone, peaking initially around dinner-time, then again at 7pm. Europeans will be shopping at a rate of €350,000 every minute, and will have spent €510 by day’s end – 80% of which will occur on debit-cards. Vice-President of Visa Ireland Conor Langford commented,
“Online shopping continues to soar in popularity in Ireland, with consumers set to pick up a range of goods on the internet for Christmas. We would remind shoppers to make sure that they place their orders early to ensure that they receive their goods on time”.
Offline, the busiest shopping day is expected to be Friday, December 23rd, with €1 in every €8 spent in Europe on a Visa card.
