Japanese telecommunications provider KDDI have developed a smartphone with a multiple layer haptic feedback touchscreen capable of recreating the sensation of pressing a physical button.
While touch screens have undoubtedly aided user interaction, like pinch to zoom and swipe to scroll actions, on mobile devices, sometimes the lack of physical feedback can be counter-intuitive and impact negatively on usability.
The Android powered smartphone contains a multiple layer haptic feedback touchscreen which allows the user to “feel” individual key presses. The touch screen provides feedback on the degree of pressure they are applying to the screen. It’s not yet known when such a product might make it to market.
