- Internet-enabled TVs aren't being used to browse the internet The notion of using an internet-enabled TV for anything other than accessing video services is failing, that's according to NPD's John Buffone.
- Netflix officially launches in the UK and Ireland with one-month free trial Netflix, the film and TV episode streaming service, has officially launched in the United Kingdom and Ireland as of today, complete with one-month free trial. While some users reported early access to the service yesterday, both netflix.co.uk and netflix.ie are officially available from this morning.
- Google buys DVR company SageTV, impending Google TV upgrade? Google has acquired digital video recording (DVR) technology company SageTV, which suggests that a Google TV upgrade may be on its way. Neither the sale price or specific future plans have been revealed by either company.
- BBC iPlayer viewership increases significantly, particularly on the PS3 TechRadar are reporting that viewership of the BBC’s video on-demand service, BBC iPlayer, is continuing to soar, reaching a record high of 145 million people using the catch-up service in December 2010 alone.
- First look at the RTÉ Player for PS3 Yesterday RTÉ announced the availability of their video on demand service RTÉ Player for the PS3. The player is now available to Irish PS3 owners as a separate icon from the PlayStation home screen, under a new ‘TV’ menu item.
- Watch ITV and Channel 4 content on your PS3 ITV and Channel 4 are both expected to launch the first commercial video content that can be viewed in the UK via the PlayStation 3 later this week. This follows a similar strategy from the BBC which launched its BBC iPlayer for the PS3 last year.
