Prolonged PlayStation Network outage enters second day
Sony PlayStation 3 owners are experiencing a prolonged PlayStation Network (PSN) outage that has more persisted for more than twenty-four hours in multiple regions, including Europe, Australia, New Zealand, the United States, and the United Arab Emirates. The outage which is affecting more than 70 million PS3 and PSP owners may persist until tomorrow, a update on the European PlayStation blog states.

RTÉ Player coming to Android and iPhone later this year
RTÉ will release Android and iOS versions of their popular video-on-demand RTÉ Player service later this year. According to Silicon Republic, Aisling McCabe, head of platform development at RTÉ, confirmed RTÉ’s plans to release free mobile apps for the two platforms late last week.

Hacker group Anonymous staging 24-hour sit-in protest in Sony stores worldwide
Hacker group Anonymous plan to stage a 24-hour sit-in protest this Saturday April 16 in Sony stores worldwide. The offline protest has been organised in response to Sony’s recently introduced restrictions on custom software that users sometimes run on their console and lawsuits taken against such Sony PlayStation 3 modifiers.

Blacks Ops First Strike DLC for PS3 coming this March 3
The first PS3 DLC map pack for Call of Duty: Black Ops will be available to download this March 3. The map pack, known as First Strike, will contain five new maps in total; four multi-player maps titled the Berlin Wall, Discovery, Kowloon, and Stadium, and one zombie map Ascension.

Will Sony introduce serial keys to combat PS3 game piracy?
According to Dutch gaming site PS3-Sense, Sony may introduce serial keys along with PS3 games in an effort to combat a recent spate of successful console hacks. Last month the PS3 root key was revealed, potentially allowing PS3 users to authenticate their own pirated games.

BBC iPlayer viewership increases significantly, particularly on the PS3
TechRadar are reporting that viewership of the BBC’s video on-demand service, BBC iPlayer, is continuing to soar, reaching a record high of 145 million people using the catch-up service in December 2010 alone.

First look at the RTÉ Player for PS3
Yesterday RTÉ announced the availability of their video on demand service RTÉ Player for the PS3. The player is now available to Irish PS3 owners as a separate icon from the PlayStation home screen, under a new ‘TV’ menu item.
