- GeoEye captures Burning Man 2011 from above US-based geospatial information company GeoEye has captured this satellite image of Burning Man 2011. The image was taken on September 01, 2011 as the week-long event was taking place.
- International Space Station to broadcast live HD video stream of Earth early next year Canadian company UrtheCast will begin streaming live HD imagery of earth from the International Space Station (ISS) in Spring 2012. Two cameras will be mounted to the outside of the ISS where the video will be down-linked and broadcast on the Internet for the world to see.

- Google releases advance preview imagery update of Bin Laden compound in Abbottābad, Pakistan Google have today released an advanced preview imagery update encompassing parts of Abbottābad, Pakistan where Al Qaeda founder Osama Bin Laden was killed during a co-ordinated and deadly assault by American Navy SEALs and CIA paramilitary forces. The update, which Google describes as "of particular interest", is only available as an advanced preview KML file viewable in Google Earth, and will be included in Google's next scheduled imagery update.
- NASA satellite image of gorse fires raging across the north and west of Ireland NASA's MODIS Rapid Response, an emergency response system that provides near real-time satellite "thermal anomaly" imagery, has captured this image of gorse fires raging across parts of the north and west of Ireland. The image was taken yesterday afternoon as strong winds and prolonged recent dry spells have driven gorse, bog, and forest fires "out of control" in Donegal, Down, Galway, Mayo and parts of Fermanagh, Monaghan and Tyrone.
- Google releases imagery update in Google Earth The Google LatLong team have released an imagery update which is available now in Google Earth and Google Maps. The update is extensive and includes high resolution aerial imagery updates for Australia, Japan, Scotland, Wales and the US, and satellite imagery updates for eighty-five countries, including large parts of Ireland.
- Fresh Irish imagery updates in Google Earth Following on with their monthly imagery update cycles, the Google Earth and Google Maps Imagery team have released another high-resolution aerial and satellite imagery update that again includes areas of Ireland, and in particular Derry/Londonderry, Mayo, Meath, Sligo, and Tyrone.
