31 record labels collectively file $3 million lawsuit against YouTube downloader service
31 of the world's largest record labels, including EMI, Sony, Universal and Warner, are collectively seeking almost $3 million (€2.1 million) in damages from YouTube video conversion website TubeFire. TubeFire is one of many websites that offer a YouTube conversion service, allowing its users to watch YouTube videos offline and on virtual any device.

BBC launch new TV-friendly iPlayer
The BBC has today launched a new TV-friendly version of its video on demand iPlayer service which aims to improve user experience on this medium. The new version is only available to users in the UK initially on the PlayStation 3 console but later rolled out to a myriad of other devices and connected TVs.

Sony planning major PSN rebrand to counteract fallout from infamous hacking outage
Sony is reportedly redesigning its PlayStation Network (PSN) user interface as part of a major rebranding operation to counteract the fallout from a month-long network outage. The outage began in April of this year after hackers gained access to PSN servers and potentially compromised the personal details of 77 million users.

Sony Music Ireland website hacked, claims two members of The Script commit suicide
Sony Music Ireland’s website appears to have been hacked earlier this morning after three unlikely stories were published on the news section of the website. One story claimed that Danny O'Donoghue and Mark Sheehan from The Script committed suicide after their gig at the Aviva Stadium last Saturday, while another claimed scientists have proved that watching the X Factor decreases one’s “Intelligence Quote (sic)”.

Apple to charge $25 per year for iCloud music service after initial free trial period
With negotiations successfully wrapped up between Apple and all four major record labels, attention now turns to the intricacies of Apple’s new cloud music service. According to the LA Times the service, dubbed iCloud, will initially be free to entice early adapters, but will be supported by a subscription fee after this trial period.

Exactly three weeks after the initial suspension of PlayStation Network services, no exact restoration date has yet been confirmed to eager gamers. Instead, an update on the European PlayStation blog states that restoration will take “at least a few more days”.

As gamers eagerly await the restoration of PlayStation Network (PSN) services in “the coming days”, many forecast additional new features and improvements that may launch with the “new” PSN. Sony to announce PlayStation Network restoration date on Sunday, hints at compensation deal
Sony will announce findings of its internal probe into last week’s massive network security breach and a possible services restoration date tomorrow Sunday May 01. The Japanese consumer electronics giant declared earlier today that it would hold a press conference tomorrow where further details concerning the historic outage will be announced, including the possibility that 2.2 million PSN users’ encrypted credit card details have been stolen.
