44% of Irish population on Facebook [Infographic]
Last week we tweeted a few statistics concerning Facebook's user base as a percentage of the Irish population. Now Edelman, a PR company operating in Ireland, has released this infographic confirming that almost 44% of the Irish population are on Facebook.

Facebook now serving one trillion pageviews each month
Facebook served over one trillion pageviews in June and again in July of this year, according to data from Google's advertising services subsidiary DoubleClick. The data is estimated by Google, but in our own experience is very accurate.

Has Twitter passed the 300 million registered users mark?
Twitter has just passed the 300 million registered users mark according to Twopcharts, a service that analyses interesting and influential Twitter users in various locations and varying languages. Twitter passed the milestone at the start of this week on May 16th, and is currently witnessing 6.3 new account registrations every second.

33% of all Facebook posts originate from mobile devices
Almost one-third of all postings made to the 677 million user strong social network Facebook originate from mobile devices, according to research from social media scientist Dan Zarrella.

Mobile Ireland 2011 – Smartphone usage in Ireland [Infographic]
Mindshare Ireland have published an interesting infographic regarding smartphone usage in Ireland. The survey, conducted by Sponge It in November 2010, suggests that while over half of Irish consumers own a smartphone, many don’t use their device to its full potential.

Android surpasses Symbian to become Ireland’s second largest mobile OS
According to StatCounter GlobalStats, Android OS has surpassed SymbianOS to become Ireland’s second most popular mobile operating system. iOS, the operating system found on the iPhone, iPad, and iPod Touch, is still by far the most popular mobile OS in Ireland.

Apple App Store statistics [Infographic]
App of the Day, a site that features a community-nominated iOS app everyday, have released an interesting infographic on app statistics. The infographic visualises various app data including proportionate data between paid and free apps, specific iOS platform data as regards the percentage of apps available to each, app category distribution, and app prices per category.

Android 2.2 overtakes 2.1 in version statistics for the first time
Google have updated their Android platform versions chart with Android 2.2 (Froyo) overtaking Android 2.1 (Eclair) for the first time. In fact, 83% of Android phones are now 2.1 or above, showing a welcome further decline in the fragmentation that once plagued the platform.

Fascinating BBC documentary on statistics and data visualisation
The BBC will broadcast an interesting hour-long documentary next Tuesday December 7th called The Joy of Stats. The programme is hosted by internet boffin Professor Hans Rosling and will be aired at 9pm on BBC 4.
