Ireland has the second slowest broadband in the EU Ireland is listed at 41 in world internet speed rankings, behind other countries like Bulgaria, Poland and the United Kingdom, according to aggregated data from SpeedTests.net. Perhaps most dishearteningly, Ireland has the second lowest internet speeds among EU member states, only scoring marginally better than Luxembourg in last place. Ireland and the UK warned of 160km/h gusts as Katia heads our way Ireland and the UK are bracing themselves for gusts of up to 160km/h as the remnants of hurricane Katia are expected to arrive late Sunday and Monday. Conversion rates down 55% among online shoppers Online conversions rates among UK shoppers are down almost 55% in the past five years, according to the latest IMRG Capgemini e-Retail Sales Index. In 2006 the average online conversion rate was 8.4%, but this figure has steadily declined to 3.8% in 2011 as consumers shift from 'online purchasing' to 'online shopping'. Google engineers working on delineating Irish counties on Google Analytics location map Location reports in Google Analytics will soon delineate Irish counties, replacing the current provincial overview that was introduced in June of this year. Mystery as Irish province disappears from Google Analytics While trawling through Google Analytics earlier, as every self-respecting webmaster should, I noticed something slightly odd when viewing location data for Ireland; Connaught is missing. Galway, Leitrim, Mayo, Roscommon and Sligo, all gone! This is certainly a mistake on Google's part, although some have quipped that this may be yet another condition of Ireland's EU/IMF deal. As consumers scramble to avail of heavily discounted TouchPad offers in the US and Canada, and now the UK, HP's tablet device has today reached the number one spot on Amazon's electronics bestseller list. Vodafone offer Android app purchases through your phone bill Vodafone UK has become the first mobile operator in Europe to offer users the ability to make Android app purchases through their existing mobile bill. BBC launch new TV-friendly iPlayer The BBC has today launched a new TV-friendly version of its video on demand iPlayer service which aims to improve user experience on this medium. The new version is only available to users in the UK initially on the PlayStation 3 console but later rolled out to a myriad of other devices and connected TVs. Tesco to offer free Wi-Fi in stores Tesco is planning to offer customers free Wi-Fi in stores across the UK, possibly the first such move by a supermarket chain operating in Britain.
