- YouTube release native PS3 app, controllable via smartphones Starting today, Sony PlayStation 3 owners can enjoy an improved YouTube experience by way of a new native YouTube app on the home entertainment system.
- TV3 launch new HTML5 web app for 3 Player TV3 has launched a new mobile web friendly version of its video on-demand service 3 Player. The web app is built with HTML5 so it works on any smartphone directly in the browser - the way services should.
- BBC iPlayer coming to Windows Phone, possibly next month The BBC's hugely popular video on-demand service, BBC iPlayer, will be coming to Windows Phone users in the "next few weeks", according to a report by The Inquirer.
- Amazon's video service now available on PlayStation 3 Amazon Instant Video, Amazon's version of Netflix, is now available to stream on the PS3. Previously, the video on-demand service was only available on select connected TVs, and select set-top boxes and Blu-ray players.
- Netflix officially launches in the UK and Ireland with one-month free trial Netflix, the film and TV episode streaming service, has officially launched in the United Kingdom and Ireland as of today, complete with one-month free trial. While some users reported early access to the service yesterday, both netflix.co.uk and netflix.ie are officially available from this morning.
- BBC launch new TV-friendly iPlayer The BBC has today launched a new TV-friendly version of its video on demand iPlayer service which aims to improve user experience on this medium. The new version is only available to users in the UK initially on the PlayStation 3 console but later rolled out to a myriad of other devices and connected TVs.
- BBC iPlayer begins global launch with iPad app in 11 countries [includes images] BBC Worldwide, the commercial arm of the BBC, has launched its global iPlayer service this morning, Thursday, with an iPad only app now available in 11 European countries. Other areas such as Australia, Canada and the US are expected to follow later this year.
- Apple to buy on-demand video giant Hulu? Apple is reportedly considering making a bid for Hulu, the on-demand TV show and movie streaming service, according to Bloomberg. Bloomberg quote two people "who weren't authorized to speak publicly" that Apple are in early talks with Hulu, and may eventually make an offer for the video giant.
- Netflix planning European launch in early 2012 On-demand internet video streaming service Netflix has plans to expand to Europe, according to a Variety report. Variety quote "leading European film distributors" confirming Netflix's plans to introduce its service in both Spain and the UK as early as spring 2012.
- YouTube adds 3,000 full-length feature films with new content partnerships Google has today announced that its video service YouTube is adding 3,000 new movie titles available to rent and view on-demand to users in the United States. YouTube has partnered with Universal, Sony Pictures and Warner Bros to begin offering thousands of full-length feature films, bringing the total number of movies available to stream on the video platform to around 6,000.
