Recently it would seem that electronic manufacturers worldwide are queuing up to announce plans to launch their own Android-powered tablet devices. Yesterday we wrote about Vizio’s new 8 inch tablet, now Toshiba plan to launch their own 10.1 inch tablet that will become available when Android Honeycomb is officially released.
Aided by impending excitement building ahead of CES, 2011 is shaping up to become the year of the tablet device, with a number of manufacturers announcing their own Android tablet visions within the last few days. None more so has the power to compete than Japanese consumer electronics giant Toshiba.
The device has not yet been named but it’s reported that it will run Android Honeycomb once released, and has a 10.1 inch screen – just like Apple’s iPad. According to Endaget the tablet has a 1280 x 800 pixel capacitive high resolution display, an accelerometer, and an ambient light sensor. Unlike the current iPad, the tablet will feature a five megapixel rear camera, and a two megapixel front-facing camera that will allow video chat. It also includes one mini-USB slot, one normal-sized USB slot, an SD card slot, and an HDMI jack.
The thickness and weight of Toshiba’s tablet are only slightly larger and heavier than the iPad. The back of the tablet device also includes an interchangeable EasyGrip, rubberised surface. More details are expected to be released towards the end of the week at the 2011 Consumer Electronics Show in Vegas.
