We were out early this morning in the freezing cold (-15 °C) to take this picture of the December 2010 total lunar eclipse. The moon is almost totally eclipsed at this stage, with the sky starting to glow increasingly red in colour.

Total lunar eclipse will turn sky red
An event known as a total lunar eclipse will occur tomorrow morning where a full moon will turn deep red as it moves into Earth’s shadow. This will be the last total eclipse that Ireland will see for another five years.

Apple App Store statistics [Infographic]
App of the Day, a site that features a community-nominated iOS app everyday, have released an interesting infographic on app statistics. The infographic visualises various app data including proportionate data between paid and free apps, specific iOS platform data as regards the percentage of apps available to each, app category distribution, and app prices per category.

Facebook gets face detection with new photo tag suggestions
In a blog post earlier today Facebook have announced a new photo tags suggestions feature that uses face detection technology. Photo tags will be automatically suggested to uploads based on previous tagging data within your social graph.

First look at the RTÉ Player for PS3
Yesterday RTÉ announced the availability of their video on demand service RTÉ Player for the PS3. The player is now available to Irish PS3 owners as a separate icon from the PlayStation home screen, under a new ‘TV’ menu item.
