Google buys Ireland's tallest commercial building, the Montevetro
Google have once again shown their commitment and long-term vision in Ireland by purchasing Ireland’s tallest commercial building, the Montevetro, for a reported €99.9 million. The newly built property sits directly across the street from Google’s current operations in Gordon House on Dublin’s Barrow Street, and will house their European, Middle East and African (EMEA) headquarters.

Not to be outdone by Apple’s new subscription service introduced yesterday, Google have today announced One Pass - a system for digital publishers that controls “user authentication, payment processing, and administration” of digital content.

Apple App Store introduces long-awaited subscription service
Apple have today announced the introduction of a long-awaited in-app subscription service available to content-based apps in the App Store. With the new service Apple receives a 30% share of new app subscriptions, but interestingly, when a publisher brings an existing or new subscriber to the app, the publisher retains 100% of earnings.

RTÉ have today launched an iPad specific version of their popular RTÉ News Now application already available on Android and iOS devices. This app exists independent of the original iOS News Now app and is tailored specifically for the Apple iPad.

Fine Gael may have yet again become political adversaries as they continue to advance deeper into the world of social media cringe prior to #ge11 later this month. In a bizarre move, Fine Gael have set up an electronic Valentine’s Day email service on their website (aka, web connection point) that lets users send their love interest an uninspiring valentine’s email, or alternatively, spam some friends.

Dublin Bus begins roll-out of real-time passenger information system
Dublin City Council, in conjunction with Dublin Bus, have begun the roll out of a real-time passenger information service in Ireland’s capital yesterday, with electronic information signs becoming operational at ten Dublin-north bus stops. It is expected that two-hundred and fifty signs will become operational by the end of the summer, and four-hundred and fifty by the end of the year.

Online activist saves 172 doomed BBC websites for $3.99
The BBC confirmed last month that it would proceed with a 25% online operations budget reduction, with the loss of 360 jobs as a result. As part of these budget curtailments, a decision to reportedly delete and not archive 172 BBC run websites has stirred one anonymous online citizen in particular into action.

Both BBC iPlayer iPad and Android apps now live
The long anticipated BBC iPlayer iPad and Android apps have finally arrived earlier today. Response has so far been subdued, with most complaining that the apps don’t bring anything new to the table. Nevertheless, we checked out the iPad version and were quite impressed.
