Mindshare Ireland have published an interesting infographic regarding smartphone usage in Ireland. The survey, conducted by Sponge It in November 2010, suggests that while over half of Irish consumers own a smartphone, many don’t use their device to its full potential.

As speculated last month, Geoff Marshall, a BBC interactive operations engineer, has confirmed that the BBC iPlayer will get its very own iPad app - and better still, it’s arriving this Thursday, February 10th.

Google Nexus S to arrive in Ireland sooner than expected
Following our coverage earlier this week regarding the intentions of Carphone Warehouse Ireland to stock the Google Nexus S smartphone "soon", we can now confirm that they have at least one of the handsets in their possession. This means that the device may become available sooner than expected here in Ireland.

AOL to acquire The Huffington Post for $315 million
American news website and content aggregator The Huffington Post will be acquired by AOL for $315 million US dollars, in a deal expected to close in the coming months. Huffington Post co-founder Arianna Huffington will become president and editor-in-chief of a new Huffington Post Media Group, which will include The Huffington Post and other AOL content properties, including recently acquired TechCrunch, gadget blog Endadget, and micro-local news service Patch.

Carphone Warehouse to stock Nexus S in Ireland “soon”
The Carphone Warehouse has announced that it will begin to sell Google’s coveted Nexus S phone in Ireland “soon”. The consumer electronics retailer made the announcement earlier this week on their Facebook page, with Vodafone Ireland reported to be an exclusive carrier.

The data collected and shared by the Central Statistics Office Ireland (CSO) is both expansive and extremely important, but not very interesting as it is currently presented. We've taken the average yearly live register figures for each county and attempted to transform this raw data into something much more useful and appealing.

Channel 4’s 4HD available on Freesat this April
Freesat, providers of subscription-free satellite TV, have today announced that Channel 4’s 4HD will be arriving on Freesat this April, bringing the total number of high definition channels available on the service to four. Currently BBC One HD, BBC HD, and ITV 1 HD are offered.
