Nokia unveils buttonless MeeGo-based N9 smartphone
Nokia have unveiled their first MeeGo-based smartphone at the Nokia Connection event in Singapore today. The Nokia N9 is also the first ever buttonless mobile device, relying purely on touch input, and will be released sometime “later this year”.

First ever Irish Internet Expo will take place this October
Internet Expo, the first ever event of its kind in Ireland will take place in the RDS, Dublin this October 14th-15th. The two-day exhibition will help Irish and international businesses showcase their products and services to an anticipated 3,000 strong attendance.

Google has acquired digital video recording (DVR) technology company SageTV, which suggests that a Google TV upgrade may be on its way. Neither the sale price or specific future plans have been revealed by either company.

Facebook have been developing an official iPad app over the past year which they will release in the “coming weeks”, according to the New York Times. The app may include features that “go beyond the features available on the Facebook Web site”.

Ireland’s Magnet Networks to serve up Wimbledon finals in 3D
Irish telecommunications and TV services provider Magnet Networks will serve up BBC One’s first ever 3D broadcast, the Wimbledon tennis finals. Magnet have recently added BBC One HD to their fibre-based TV service, which will allow its customers to view the Wimbledon finals on July 2nd and 3rd in 3D for the first time ever.

Over half of Facebook users prefer to use Google Chrome
Over half of Facebook users prefer to use Google’s Chrome browser, according to the evolving results of an ongoing Facebook Question. Out of the 1,037,303 Facebook users who have answered the browser related question at the time of writing, 51.66% of those surveyed chose Google Chrome as their first choice web browser.

First images of the 2011 total lunar eclipse above Ireland
The last lunar eclipse viewable in Ireland for another four years occurred earlier tonight. The spectacle lasted for about two hours in total. The Sociable's Darren McCarra captured some of these shots of the 2011 total lunar eclipse from Sliabh Beagh in north Monaghan.

Longest total lunar eclipse in 11 years will turn moon blood red tonight
The longest total lunar eclipse since 2000 will begin to occur this evening and last until midnight, providing stargazers a rare opportunity to catch this prolonged wonderful spectacle. The eclipse begins at 6.24pm (IST) this evening, although it will not be properly visible until sunset at around 9.55pm tonight, at which stage the moon will turn blood red in colour.

As a huge ash plume from the Puyehue volcano in southern Chile continues to cause travel chaos in many countries, NASA have captured satellite imagery of the ash cloud as it travels above Australia and New Zealand - over half a world away.
