James Cameron, renowned director of films like Titanic and Avatar, has successfully completed his solo submarine journey to the deepest point of the Earth’s ocean, the Mariana Trench.

The Mariana Trench is some 36,070 feet deep and 120 times larger than the Grand Canyon. While on the ocean’s floor Cameron tweeted to his 254,000 plus followers,

Cameron made the dive in a lime-green submarine known as Deepsea Challenger. Only two others have ever completed the journey before, Jacques Piccard and Don Walsh, in 1960. Cameron spent around three hours in the trench, collecting samples to be studied by biologists and geologists, as well as capturing the environment with special 3D cameras.

This isn’t the first time we’ve heard of tweeting from unusual or extreme places. Astronauts have tweeted onboard the International Space Station, and one mountain climber became the the first person to tweet from the world’s highest point last year.
