- Tablets are killing ebook readers – but nobody cares, right? In November 2007, Amazon launched the Kindle. The first of its kind electronic book reader that was supposed to be the death of printed books. That never quite happened. What has happened though, after four consecutive years of phenomenal growth, sales of ebook readers have finally begun to slump, down 36% in 2012. Tablets, the ebook reader's younger and full-featured sibling, are to blame.
- Amazon Cloud Drive now available throughout Europe, sort of Amazon's answer to Dropbox, Amazon Cloud Drive, is now available throughout Europe, having first launched in the United States 17 months ago.
- Samsung Galaxy S III details confirmed on Amazon pre-order listing Details concerning Samsung's successor to its flagship Galaxy S II device have been confirmed on an Amazon Germany pre-order page. The Galaxy S III will be officially unveiled at an event in London on May 3.
- Amazon's video service now available on PlayStation 3 Amazon Instant Video, Amazon's version of Netflix, is now available to stream on the PS3. Previously, the video on-demand service was only available on select connected TVs, and select set-top boxes and Blu-ray players.
- Is Pottermore a game-changer? Pottermore, an "online reading experience built around the world of Harry Potter", launched in beta yesterday after some delays. As well as becoming a destination where fans of the book series can interact with the brand, Pottermore also includes a digital book store where all seven Harry Potter novels are sold exclusively in digital form - crucially bypassing traditional publisher and online retailers alike.
- Netflix officially launches in the UK and Ireland with one-month free trial Netflix, the film and TV episode streaming service, has officially launched in the United Kingdom and Ireland as of today, complete with one-month free trial. While some users reported early access to the service yesterday, both netflix.co.uk and netflix.ie are officially available from this morning.
- Shoppers are no longer impulsive, study finds Shoppers are no longer impulsive. A recent study from Deloitte has found that nine out of 10 shoppers know what they're purchasing before entering a physical store - all thanks to research first conducted online.
- Amazon increases Kindle Fire production for the second time to meet pre-order demand Amazon has reportedly increased its Kindle Fire order to five million units by the end of 2011 as pre-orders continue to be stronger than expected. Amazon had already last month increased its order from 3.5 million to four million units.
- YouTube to begin selling merchandise, music and concert tickets YouTube has announced plans to allow artists to begin selling merchandise, music and concert tickets directly within their own YouTube channel. The video sharing site also revealed that they receive a massive 800 million visits per month.
- Tablet speculation mounts as Amazon schedules media event next week Amazon has scheduled a media event in New York on September 28th, mounting speculation that their forthcoming Amazon tablet will be announced. The tablet is expected to begin retailing in October or November at $299, considerably less than the entry-level Apple iPad.
