October’s Dublin Web Summit to be attended by Asia’s technology leaders
Officially launching October’s Dublin Web Summit at the Clarence Hotel this morning, Minister for Jobs, Enterprise and Innovation, Richard Bruton, announced that some of Asia’s leading technology entrepreneurs, CEOs and investors will be attending autumn’s web summit, as well as the invite-only networking event F.ounders, both of which take place in Dublin towards the end of October.

Even Google’s chairman Eric Schmidt is complaining about Irish broadband
While the current state of broadband infrastructure in Ireland in nothing short of disgraceful, it’s a relief somewhat to hear that a person held in such regard as Google’s executive chairman Eric Schmidt thinks so too. Speaking in Dublin yesterday, Schmidt stated how Ireland is “behind” on the roll-out of acceptable broadband and that Irish taxpayer’s money would be better invested in broadband “that serves the citizens”.

First ever Irish Internet Expo will take place this October
Internet Expo, the first ever event of its kind in Ireland will take place in the RDS, Dublin this October 14th-15th. The two-day exhibition will help Irish and international businesses showcase their products and services to an anticipated 3,000 strong attendance.

Irish newspaper begins publishing WikiLeaks Ireland Cables
The Irish Independent, along with sister newspaper The Belfast Telegraph, have obtained 1,903 US embassy cables from the WikiLeaks organisation that detail the sometimes “murky” underworld of international diplomacy between Ireland and the US. Both newspapers began publishing details contained within the cables today and will do so throughout this week.

Cloud computing firm Marketo creates 125 jobs in Dublin
Cloud computing firm Marketo are to create 125 jobs over the next three years in Dublin, Minister for Jobs, Enterprise and Innovation Richard Bruton will announce this morning. The IDA Ireland backed initiative will see the California-based company deliver business-to-business marketing automation software across Europe.

US President Barack Obama's limo gets stuck leaving US Embassy in Dublin
US President Barack Obama's indestructible limo, nicknamed 'The Beast', got stuck leaving the US Embassy in Dublin earlier today. An exit ramp trapped the vehicle in which Barack Obama and the first lady Michelle Obama were traveling in following lunch with US Ambassador Dan Rooney.

Irish Social Media Awards finalists announced
The finalists of the Bord Gáis sponsored Social Media Awards have been announced. Over one hundred Irish companies and organisations in seventeen categories will descend upon the Mansion House on Dublin’s Dawson Street this Thursday, May 26, for the inaugural awards event.
